I love cards and by this I am referring to little decks of wonder meant to be shuffled and spread for divination. Of course I appreciate the type hallmark produces but I am referring to the former. Each day I play draw cards. In the morning I have gotten into the habit of pulling an angel card to set a focus for the day. I always do this for the year as well.
Twice this week, from my little angel deck I have drawn the card: purification. This reminds me to respect the conjunction of Mars with Pluto which begins today and moves us to the New Moon tomorrow. This connection occurs in Capricorn, the sign where Mars is exalted.
Where this occurs in your individual chart denotes how the energy is better utilized. Tune into it and feel the need to drive and push forward. This is a week of promises for the times to come. Take head of the warrior and let him drive you forward in your hopes and plans for the new year.
Pluto’s presence demands cleaning and letting go of that which has decayed in our lives. “Get rid of it!” he shouts! Are you sitting on anything? Are you holding on to a situation which just isn’t progressing for you? It could be an idea, a situation or a relationship you have yourself fooled into conjuring up. Step back now. Ask yourself, “really now, is this working?”
The warrior aspect of Mars is stronger then his compassionate side right now. Be careful to evaluate prior to the disposal of anything at this time. Look closely at where you are spending your time and energy. If it is misplaced, you will be forced by the hand of Pluto to redirect.
If you choose wisely, you are in for a smooth ride for the next six months. If not, you will be carefully cleaning it up as Saturn begins his six-month retrograde until the middle of May. Adding muddle to the mix, Mercury enters the wildly eccentric sign of Aquarius on new years day. Ten days later he begins a retrograde dance backwards. Relax now before you get in a twist. This is an opportunity to re-color your landscape. The new people you meet over the holiday are sure to find places in your network.
January 3, Venus slips into Pisces bringing the potential of greater sensitivity in relationships whether manifesting new ones or becoming more aware in those which already exist. Flow with the spiritual motion of Pisces and awaken to new levels of relating. The goddess’ gesture is followed by Jupiter as he whirls into Aquarius on January 5, and expects you to try out your new skills.
So here we are experiencing the Age of Aquarius. How are you going to express it? The magical key is to stick with and follow through on your innovative ideas. The downside of this energy is to get so many inspirations you don’t know which one to follow. It is easy to become overwhelmed and not know which way to go. This leads to bewilderment.
This is the cultural shift many of us were born to be the harbingers of. This is the new paradigm. Going green is not enough. Your every move, every breath must contribute to the good of the greater. Consider this when you go to reinvest what you moved out of the stock market. Your drop in the river is an important factor regarding its flow.
Culminating this cycle, Mercury in his backward motion treads back into Capricorn. He does not move station direct until after the next new moon on January 26. Normally I would not discuss what happens after the next lunation but I do not want to keep you hanging. The winged messenger will turn direct as February begins.
While revisiting the sign of the sea-goat, Mercury receives stable support and you will find it much easier to follow through on ideas. Weigh everything out before then and get your ducks lined up. January is no time to be caught with your pants down. Even if you think the churning waters stirred by the fishes’ tails blinds onlookers, remember no one knows who is naked until the tide goes out!

Oye Mis Estrellitas,
This day marks the moment of the Winter Solstice. It is the true turning point for the year, traditionally a time of deep contemplation honoring the return of longer days, warm sunshine and the renewal of life’s vital energy here in the northern hemisphere where I reside.
Aside from the annual noteworthiness of Apollo progression into Capricorn, this year’s solstice point marks a joining of Apollo, the Sun and Hades a.k.a. Pluto having a reunion on the doorstep of Capricorn’s realm! This magic is taking place due to the time it takes Pluto to complete a cycle of the twelve actually thirteen signs of our canopy of horoscope star clusters. We will never have the opportunity to witness this again. That is of course unless you plan to live for 248 more years!
Winter Solstice is the point when the Sun moves out of Sagittarius, the sign of the centurion travel wizard, into Capricorn the mark of the mystic sea goat. Capricorn brings our awareness to the balance of spirituality, which I see as a residual effect of the essence of Sagittarius, with our necessity to strive in the material world. This endeavor is represented by the mountain goat front end of Capricorn steadily climbing higher toward the sky. So, small wonder why the Catholics chose to move a Cancerian birthday celebration of an enlightened teacher and healer of humanity to this time of year!
The tail of Capricorn, the sea goat, dips into the liquid realm of Neptune. This reminds us that we must always stay aware of our connection to the divine and the forces of nature, no matter what is taking place around us! Though I reside in a subtropical locale, I am still aware of the coolness and stillness of the winter months. I am able to leave my doors open and the little bit of sun I soak in during the day, is greeted with the deepest of gratitude.
Now, as we stand on the threshold of the new year and this marvelous new era of change, let us be ever aware of that which we are holding onto. May we be open to letting Pluto, the mystic alchemist, cook it with his magical energy. High above his Hades workshop, a banner is flying which reads “All that which you no longer find useful, relevant or beautiful is mine to transform!” Let us take this day to give it over to him in loving donation and make this so.
Useful practices for transformation and to help with the letting go include devotion to the energies of the higher realm. This is a sure fire way to let go of ego and show the big boss: Krónos a.k.a. Saturn where your heart is. Saturn is tapping his fingers rhythmically on his credenza waiting to see if you “get it” or not. I choose to dance to his rhythm and find harmony in understanding his bidding.
Thinking back on this ringed master’s history, I am not one to cross someone who ate his children and castrated his father. This is a guy who gets what he wants, so I am aiming to please him in this turning of this year. You see, Saturn is square Mars, a.k.a. Ares. May his lover aspect reign beauty on you rather then his warlord nature. What to do you ask?
Choose love my little star. ¡Porque el amor es el curador más poderoso! When confronted with adversity, stop and take a deep breath from the center of that pulsing, flaming jewel inside your chest. Give love and respect to all your relations. See them as your relations! This is guaranteed to bring you smooth sailing into the Neptunian realm of creativity. Be prepared for unusual dreams and visions as you work this request. Warning: if you choose the adverse aspect of Mars, the warrior, you are sure to end up in the molten goo stewing in Pluto’s cauldron.
Let’s recall an interesting naming issue as we blink into the misty “What the heck is going on with the stock market future?” Though Hades is the Greek name for the god of death and the ruler of the underworld, he was given the name Pluto by the Romans. Pluto is the god of wealth. Before I go on, I ask you, are you getting any psychic messaging at this point? Roll with it. The key to the celebration of this year’s Solstice point is: Connect all the dots to reveal what the stars have in store for you.
